I just started highlighting My Hand book, I use Many colors, Green for grounding, Orange for sections that have numbers in it, Yellow for general.
2 years ago I bought the ultimate code book from Tom Henry. Its highlighted for you. Its nice but I'm finding that I learn more when I highlight it my self. The only problem is that it takes a long time.

I'm meeting with the department manager tomorrow and will be ordering a new 08 code book. Then I'll have the reg code book and the handbook. I get to start all over in the new book with the marking and notes!

I am planning on using some of the ideas brought up here - using the different colors for different items instaed of just going all willy nilly like what I have been doing in the past.

the things we learn when we aren't looking to learn anything

Along with the NEC tabs for the code book, Post-it makes some very durable colored tabs that I added to sections that I need to reference frequently.
