OK, here's the "Lift Station Design Manual:"

Next to the pit you set a Christie box. I happen to like the fiberglass ones. Here is where you make your connections. Wires exit the pit, and enter the box throught LARGE sweeps, from below. Power wires in one sweep, float wires in another. Large sweeps because the wires WILL swell with time, and can be impossible to replace if the pipe is small. Box is set grade, at an angle to match grade. Seal the hole you made in the pit with spray foam.

Make your connections for the power wires using these Ideal kits: http://www.idealindustries.com/prod...div=4&l1=heat_shrink&l2=thermo-shrink_splices . Absolutely waterproof, and you can take them apart later, without having to cut the wires. Cut the plugs off the pump cables if there are any; receptacles are not a good idea in either a Christie box or in the pit.

Float wires can be spliced with simple wire nuts, dipped in Scotch-kote.

You send one circuit from your panel to the control panel for the pumps. I am quite fond of the SJE Rhombus panels: http://www.sjerhombus.com/products.php . Run your wires to the Christie box.

Typically, I will 'color code' the wires in a slightly unorthodox manner. That is, a pair of red wires to power one pump, a pair of blue to the second pump, a black as 'common' for all the floats, and then each float gets it's own color (yellow lowest float, Orange for second float, violet for third float if there is one). Each float also gets a wrap of the matching tape, as does the cable where it enters the Christie box.
