Under 2011 code 690.31(E)(1) stated that wiring methods beneath a roof shall not be installed within 10in of roof deck…

I can’t find any such code in the 2017 version. Has the implementation of 690.12 and rapid shut down systems deemed the 10in rule no longer a concern?

Any clarification appreciated.

I'm aware of the rule that says you have to make sure your wiring under a roof deck needs to be out-of-the-way of any roofing nails that might be installed later... but 10" seems excessive.

It was to allow firefighters to safely axe through a roof without fear or cutting into a 600VDC wire from roof mounted PV. Hence my wondering if the introduction of rapid shut down did away with this code.
