I think chances are good these units would all run at the same time and because of that there is no demand factor.

The utility may have something to say about it as well.

I would agree. Good chance that everyone will get up to take a shower to head to work, or the same when coming home.

Just basing a thought on Bary curve data using coincidence factors vs load factors, you might think that a minimum demand factor might be 90-95%. This might be OK just for thinking, but we still are bound by the code.

I'm sure the utility will be thrilled to have a high demand with relatively low energy to go along with it. Not.

When you take a hot shower, does it feel cold? :)

I prefer to heat my cold water, but cold water heater does'nt soud right ether. "hot water heater" bugs me too, almost as much as "ATM machine".
 
I think that it is unethical to hook up an elctric tankless water heater.
Gas is OK but electric is going to cost the HO big bucks when we get our demand meters in 2012.
I wont say much more bad about them until my kids are done with weddings and school.
Its such easy money repairing those burned meter sockets............

Why is it unethical?

Besides, some folk are just plain scared to death of gas.

For one thing, I doubt most of these tank-less installations are properly calculated and are most likely frying meter sockets like KFC.
Do you really think a device that requires 3- 40 amp circuits to fire all at once is a good idea.
What about when we are all on demand meters with in two years? Will that benefit the HO?

Then installing such a critter without doing a load calc is what would be unethical.
