I have a 2008 NEC CD-ROM (authentic copy) that does not allow me to highlight, make new book marks, ect(but it does let me copy and paste). I am aware that there is a newer version that allows the user to highlight, bookmark, ect.

On my version it says that a security password is required??? Is that the same on the newer version. I have made attempts to contact the NFPA but have had little response....besides they will probably say to buy the new version.

If anyone else is familiar with what I am talking about and can offer some assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.

Same here. I don't need a password as it's registered.

Mine is registered also. Downloadable twice. I had to punch in all the serial number stuff, and install it with a set up wizard ect.

I got this copy off of EBAY, cause I thought it was a steal for $40 bucks. It contains the entire NEC, a bookmarked table on contents, and search feature, but requires a password to use custom bookmark/highlight features.

That's probably why it was only 40 bucks.....When the 08 NEC CD-Rom first came out was it less expensive than it is now???

Not bootleg. Just already registered and can't be any more.

Bootleg ones are the ones for ten bucks and you get a pdf file emailed to you.

Ive got the NEC CD register on two computers and the PDF version....

Just as a side note I use the PDF version about 95% of the time....

The Cd version is difficult to work with and frustrating with the registration crap. One of the computers I had it on bit the dust and I had to call the phone number on the CD to explain the situation that my old computer bit the dust..... a lot of argueing ang poor customer service but I finally pestered them enough to give me one more chance at registering....

Needless to say I won't be getting the '11 version on Cd I'll just wait until someone makes a PDF of it............................................

If it has already been used twice....why would it allow me to install it and use it on my computer? I'm not sure how all that stuff works....but I thought that after 2 then thats it??

No. If it doesn't open with Folio Views, you got a simple pdf copy. Here's a screen shot of the real deal:

Another way to tell if it's home-brewed is the printing on the CD. If it's a label/sticker, it's fake.

I'd say you were taken for forty bucks.

I agree entirely about the fake part, and getting taken for 40 bucks.....but why/how would it require serial numbers and all that stuff?

You could consider yourself taken for forty buck or think of it that you saved 120 bucks not buying the "non-fake" that won't give you hardly anything more than the PDF version...

In fact I've heard rumor that certain generous folk on this very forum will email you a PDF of the 08 NEC for free........

Asking for a serial number and 'registering' it is all fake. All the setup program did is install the pdf on your desktop.

The PDF you show is exactly what I have.

Is the label of the CD a sticker, or is it silk screened? Stickers are a sure sign it's fake.

I have it....I just want to put my own book marks and highlight ect.

Only the Folio View version (legit) can do that, unless you can crack the password to edit the .pdf file you have.

I should have known better:roll:.......You get what you paid for. I really like how necplus.org is set up but I hate having to log on every time......guess I'll have to get the right one;)
