Emergency lighting in patient care area

I had an electrical inspection today on a project and the electrical inspector adviced me that i would need an em light in the exam rooms does anyone knw what code requirement this is. NEC, NFPA, IBC, ect.

I don't think the NEC has a rule about lights in patient care areas. Receptacles, yes, but not lights. Ask the inspector for a code reference.

What type of facility is this?

Are the exam rooms non-hazardous anesthetizing locations?

I agree, the OPer said the inspector was asking for an emergency light in the exam rooms.

517.63(A) requires a battery powered emergency lighting unit installed in non-hazardous anesthetizing locations. These battery units need to installed in accordance with 700.12(F) which deals with emergency unit equipment.

Dentist's exam rooms with nitrous oxide would need to comply with this section.
