Where are all the guys saying "raise your rates" and "I don't start my truck for less than $150.00" and "Don't cut your price just to stay busy" and blah blah blah...
I am guessing they are In Dubai

my phone has not rung in two months.
this sucks!!!! my paper ad, , now says i will meet or beat any other bonafide bid by anybody.
I got my ass whipped here over the last year and a half for promoting working for less than you normally would or would want to just to stay busy.
Way to hang.Scott this is just a bit of gallows humor.
If things are slow, Is your ad money invested in proven producers, like yellow pages, and community based publications.
Is your business focus narrow, open it up with offering more services, construction alone will usually not support a small shop, you may need to offer service calls, remodel work, and the big money area ongoing maint.
Nothing but A&E ???
LMAO
Edit: To the OP:
Well, if my story is any indication, if you have no business sense your company will die. Know when to say when, don't sink your family out of stupid pride.
Fortunately, some of the big boys are well entrenched, and I managed to get my old job back bending pipe, for which I am indelibly grateful.

I heard a guy the other day blaming former President Clinton for the current economic situation, what???
Things are better now and looking up. Where it goes from here who knows. Well I know some of you here think you know but that's another story.![]()
I am happy things worked out for you but there is nothing wrong with expecting to be paid what you are truly worth.

I am surprised to see this thread. We are absolutely slammed with work right now and have been for several months with no end in sight. We pay between 45K-65K for good electricians and can't seem to find good people (seem to hear this alot from other contractors).
Absolutely.Carter tried to be responsible and start an energy plan that took us away from oil, but............ the cost was too much for us to take .......... and is it still?
.......money is starting to flow, I have another sign that things are getting better. A woman called me a "theif" recently when I priced out some work for her. Clear evidence that my pricing is back where it should be.
