This might get trashed being off topic but I noticed in this Mike Holt video
Ryan Jackson using a Electronic Cigarette in the studio during filming.
I myself quit smoking back in March in favor of the Electronic cigarette and love it. I think it has really brought up my efficiency for the simple fact that I never take smoke breaks. Any time I feel the urge I reach in my pocket, puff on my electronic cigarette a couple times and slide it right back in my pocket. Takes all of 5 seconds. Highly recommended and very cool to see Ryan doing it.

It must be on topic if it it was on Mike Holt video.

I think it is really cool if they help. :)

BTW, congrats on quitting!

And thanks for leaving the thread up. I hope someone sees it and it helps them. It's so nice to breath easy again. No "smoker's cough", no hacking up crud in the morning. Not to mention all those smoke breaks saved!

I know that smoking is a physical addiction so anything that can get you off of cigarettes is a good thing. It's still amazes me that people actually smoke given all of the documentation as to how bad it is towards your health. Fortunately for non-smokers it's now banned even on construction sites.

I smoked for years and on June 13 2011 I quit. It was on that date I had a heart attack. Thankfully every thing came out good but it was a wake up call not only to smoking but diet also. My wife has me now eating leaves, twigs and sticks all with out salt. :weeping:

Will you eventually quit the electronic cig?

I understand those that have smoked for years having a hard time quitting. What I find difficult is the young kids that start.

I have made offers to all our smoking employees to assist (pay raise and/or pay for any assistance in quitting such as patches hypnotism....) in quitting, only a few took the offers of; those two returned to smoking one after 5 years of not smoking. The 5 year quitter said for every day of those 5 years he craved a smoke. He has been off the smokes for 4 years this time, the VA correctional system banned smoking.

I don't know about quitting the electronic cigarette. The truth is I'm not sure there is a good reason to. I do get asked that question quite a bit. Some see it as the same as smoking and that I haven't really accomplished anything. I completely understand where they are coming from but it is only a misconception. I've done dozens of hours (literally) of research on the topic and I have come to agree with most, that electronic cigarettes pose such little danger that using them is not important health-wise.

I consider the importance of quitting around the same as quitting caffeine from my diet.
It's funny how e-cigarettes are looked down upon the same as smoking even though they are nearly no negative side effects at all, while drugs like Chantix are completely accepted even with it's crazy side effects.

Cool hope that helps everyone who smokes quit smoking..:)

I never plan on it! I been strong 5 months now :)

It's quite amazing how the other guys who smoke now stink to me :p
I think that used to be me! Of course when I see one of em' hawk a big pile of nasty brown up, I smile and think never again.
I feel quite grateful someone showed me the e-cigarette.

I quit on April 1st 2003 after smoking for 32 years. After that I had a chest xray a few months later and was in an early stage of emphysema but due to quitting I have never had any issues and after a breathing test about a year after that I had 90+% usage of my lung capacity, just lucky I quit when I did.

It was rough for the first week and then started getting easier, after a couple of months I was over most of the cravings and a few months after that I didn't want a cigarette at all.

I found out just how bad I must have stunk when smokers come into my office or a meeting after I was a non smoker.

Curtis, I didn't know you had a heart attack and I'm glad you are doing well, I guess we will have fruits and veggies next time you come over. :)

Tell Wanda we said hi.

Just wait until they ban Big Macs from the jobsite. Those babies are silent killers! :D

So that's where you've been!
Sorry about the heart attack, I'm tyring hard not to have one myself.
I quit smoking November23,1997 and it was by far the hardest thing I have ever done. Used the patch. It was a life saver, not to mention the doctor asking me if I had seen the people with the oxygen tanks and saying that's you in a couple of years if you don't knock it off!

Not to hijack the thread but............

Not to hijack the thread but............

What I want to express to every one is inspired by a PM I received from one of our long time poster and I can keep it electrical for Bob:p.
After counting it up I probably smoked for about 40 years bad thing is I am only 52 years old. Guess that is what happens when you are born and raised on a tobacco farm in the south.
My experience went like this. At work like normal and my chest had a burning feeling so I just wrote it off to smoking too much and went on through the day. Got home, wife at work on 2nd shift so I just kicked back and checked E-mails from work, lurked around here some and watched some TV. Around 10:00 I took a shower and just the exertion of taking the shower and drying off had the center of my chest on fire. So I took about 4 aspirin and just sat down to relax and the pain eased off. In a little while my wife came home and I told her we may want to go to the ER and get this checked out. Long story short my blood work came back with an enzyme that was elevated which was a marker for a heart attack. So they told me they were admitting me into the brand new heart center at the hospital.
That morning they took me for heart catheterization where they placed a stint in an artery that was 90% blocked and did angioplasty on a smaller artery that was clogging up. Wonder what would happen if I get shocked working something live with this stint? No matter it is a code violation to work something hot.
Now it is aspirin and blood thinners for breakfast and cholesterol medicine for supper. And speaking of the blood thinners, Cutler-Hammer please make your panels out of thinner, sharper metal I did not completely bleed to death installing one the other day.
First I want to say that only by the grace of God did I come out of this as well as I did. Second I am not on some soap box telling every one how bad smoking is. If that is what you choose then go for it. For me the heart thing was a wake up call not only to smoking but diet also. It was also a wake up call for my wife, who was a smoker also. She has stopped smoking. But think about this. The ER, stint and 1 nights stay in the hospital was over $42,000.00. I will be on at least one of the medicines for the rest of my life which is around $120.00 per month. There again I am fortunate to have insurance and it will not cost me that much out of pocket. I am in cardiac rehab with a guy that is 59 and he has worked for a small electrical contractor for years. He had an attack while laying wire in a ditch. He has no insurance. Think about it guys.

I guess we will have fruits and veggies next time you come over.
We can do boneless, skinless, tasteless chicken:roll: There is no way to grill healthy fat back:happyno:

You quit smoking and she's turning you into a Koala Bear. (mine has done the same)
Congrats on quitting. I smoked 3 packs a day for 30 years. Last November. I got a tremendous amount of black mold in my lungs. I Went into complete respiratory failure and spent 2 weeks in the hospital. Haven't had one since.

How do you handle the time of smokers taking a break? In most places, that means 5-10 minutes away from the work. Could loose 30-40 minutes a day. Do you allow non-smokers to take the same time off? I was chewed out once for accompanying a coworker on their break because I don't smoke. Seemed rather unfair, especially as I was usually more productive than them, anyway.

(Shouldn't this topic be over in contracting?)

I think every smoker has it in the back of his mind that it's only a matter of time till the heart attack or the lung cancer.

I quit about 15 years ago. never had one since. Haven't really had any cravings, although sometimes I smell someone smoking and I think, "Man does that smell good." I take a big deep breath of the smoke and think Oh yeah that's good, but I don't really crave any butts. Kinda makes me feel good that I can suck in a big lungfull of smoke like that and just walk away and forget it.

I read in Ann Landers how to quit and this is how I did it. Pick a day a good little while off (six - eight months ) and every time you think about it say to yourself," on that day I'm quitting smoking." Till that day, smoke all you want ...don't try to limit them or cut back... maybe even smoke more if you want to, ...just remind yourself every time you think of it that on that day you're quittin.

When that day came I said to myself, "By durn I think I WILL quit." It does something to your mind. I told no one else but myself. I chewed some nicotine gum for a week or two but got tired of that and never smoked again.

I got zero willpower. You have to want to quit... that's all... and nothing else will work.

That's basically what I did and April 1st seemed like a good time to either do it or claim I was joking. ;)
