Sure, when you are supplying 120 volt equipment and the customer does not want or does not have the space needed for remote transformers or overcurrent protection.

The OP started regarding lighting pole circuit, and since fixtures are fixed equipments (not portable app. or equipment) then if higher voltage is available, it make sense to emply.

Yeah like when he is one breaker space short, but decides it's cheaper to run 1,000 feet of #2 out to power a lightbulb than to mount a small lighting subpanel :huh:
