THHN sunlight rated?

The utilities wires (triplex) come to the weather head a then splice on to usually copper that the electrician usually runs. Can that wire be THHN?
 
Those conductors would also require a wet location rating. THHN is only for dry locations and damp locations.
 
THWN/THHN is not guaranteed to be sunlight resistant. If it is, it will be part of the labeling on the cable. So check the insulation labeling to verify sunlight resistant. All I've seen recently have that rating.
 
I agree with Mark that generally the dual or tri-rated (with MTW) often say sunlight-resistant or similar.

Whether they actually hold up to years in the sun may still be debatable though...

any cable or wire exposed to the elements will eventually fail, even SE cable- it dries out and cracks
