You have to remove or tag for future use certain low voltage cables (communication, maybe fire alarm, etc.), but not normal power conductors. The requirements are scattered around the 700's articles, if memory serves.

Actually there are a few instances where normal power wiring must be removed.

*note these sections do not apply to the OP.

372.13 Discontinued Outlets. When an outlet is abandoned,
discontinued, or removed, the sections of circuit
conductors supplying the outlet shall be removed from the
raceway. No splices or reinsulated conductors, such as
would be the case of abandoned outlets on loop wiring,
shall be allowed in raceways.

374.7 Discontinued Outlets. When an outlet is abandoned,
discontinued, or removed, the sections of circuit

Is there a section in the NEC about underground wires that were used at panels at temporary trailers on job site. Do they need to be removed or tagged for future use? mike-inspector.

I would think that an ambitious apprentice might remove the wiring for scrap money if no other use was intended for the wires.
