When a remote building on the same premises is fed from another building on the premises, does the remote building have to have a main disconnect disconnect? I.E. a disconnect ahead of the panel in the remote building or a main circuit breaker in the panel itself.

Two relevant code sections:

225.31 Disconnecting Means. Means shall be provided
for disconnecting all ungrounded conductors that supply or
pass through the building or structure.
225.32 Location. The disconnecting means shall be in-
stalled either inside or outside of the building or structure
served or where the conductors pass through the building or
structure. The disconnecting means shall be at a readily
accessible location nearest the point of entrance of the con-
ductors. For the purposes of this section, the requirements
in 230.6 shall be utilized.

You need to read the exceptions to 225.32. Is this a residence or an industrial establishment? If it is industrial, and they have documented safe switching procedures, the feeder breaker in the source panel could be the disconnect for a remote building (that is exception 1 to 225.32)

Thanks all. It is actually a commercial facility. The feeder passes partially through the first building, goes underground and stubs through slab in second building. The disconnect in second building is located right where the conduit stubs through the slab.
