I have a small definite purpose contactor I need to put into an enclosure. The size is 3.5 L x 3 W x 2.5 H. I've looked over 314 but not sure how to configure for a device like this. If someone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

As always, thanks.

Definite-purpose contactors are UL Recognized and intended as replacement components only, so I don't think you'll find an enclosure for one.

That said, I think 312.6 would be applicable to any equipment installed in an enclosure.

I've never done calculations to size a box for a single contactor. Hold it in your hand and determine how easily you want your wires to go into the terminals while leaving enough room for your hands, then buy that size box.

See 314.24 for guidance on sizing boxes with enclosed devices.
Also see 314.16(B)(1) & (4) for guidance on calculating the volume of conductors & devices

I had to purchase this contactor from an HVAC supplier. It is a DPST with a 24v coil.

Unless you are using it for a direct replacement of an existing contactor of the same brand and model number it can be considered a violation as they are not UL listed.

YMMV.

Thanks, that what I was looking for.

Looks like I had better come up with another way to accomplish my task. :weeping:

What code section requires that a contactor be a listed device?
