So looking at the actuals, a 150 lb person has 6.12E18 J of equivalent energy so that would not be enough to throw the Earth out of orbit since you would need something on the order of E32 to E33 J (don't feel like looking up the Earth/Sun constants).

Just gather about 72.5 trillion of your closest 150 lb friends and you are back in business! They probably would take issue with you wanting to convert them into energy!:D

A 50 kg person if fully converted 1000 megaton tnt

http://www.1728.org/einstein.htm

required to knock Earth from orbit
6.24x10^17 Megatons of TNT.

Looking at it another way (using your orbit numbers) it would take about 6x10^14 people to de-orbit the earth.
And the mass of the earth is about that of 10^23 people. So the process is really quite efficient, but the scale of the original assertion was way off. :)

Assume an asteroid at 40,000 mph
what mass to de-orbit?

1074 megaton tnt = 3.3144e+18 foot-pounds = 4.4938e+18 joules

1 Gigaton explosion, if underwater, would probably displace all of the water in every ocean, killing everyone with a miles high tsunami. Good thing people can't spontaneously fission, tho at times I have wished that some people would spontaneously combust with a glare.:lol:
