So I believe per OSHA or code(not sure which) romex has to be supported with "porcelains"(insulators).correct?

I ask because I've been to jobsites where much of the romex is supported by other means.

With a romex string, I've either used tie wraps (tie wrap around struct and independent loop around Romex)
or insulated wire (wrapped around structure and looped down and wrapped around Romex and back up to
structure and wrapped again).

Guess, I've been doing it wrong I certainly don't want to post Code Articles here...

The NYC electrical code is pretty specifc:

ARTICLE 590 Temporary Installations

SECTION 590.4 Subsection 590.4(J) – Add the following at the beginning of the subsection: Temporary wiring for lighting shall be properly and substantially supported on noncombustible, nonabsorbtive insulators and shall be kept off the floor and free and clear of contact with woodwork, metal pipes and metal portions of the building structure.
