Hi Guys,

I see that typically a meter is ahead of the main breaker in service panels. This seems counterintuitive. What is the logic here?

It seems the service supply conductors would terminate at the mains ahead of the meter, to permit maintenance or for disconnection purposes.

Thoughts?
Thanks,
EE

The meter is first because they ( POCO) don't want you to be able to simply disconnect and pull the meter. The meter is sealed for this very reason.

For some reason the power company doesn't think that power should be free ( not even for Christmas ).

The customer needs access to their service disconnect if it were ahead of the meter it would be very easy to get some electricity for free.
