Unique Kitchen Island Question

I have a customer that is creating a very unique kitchen design that utilizes and antique Pepsi cooler for the island. He wants the cooler to be functional and be able to lift the top to access the cooler. Because this is located in the kitchen were a traditional Island would be, what do you all recommend for complying with outlet requirements, if any, since the cooler is equivalent to a refrigerator. Again the idea is that the top of the cooler will be modified to look like a countertop, but will be hinged to allow access into the cooler.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't think a cooler in the island is going to change requirement for a receptacle.

Receptacles are allowed to be installed in the side of an island if that is the only available place for them.

I think it is an appliance and not an island also. But practically should win out here. If the owner plans on using any type of countertop appliance on the work surface, they are going to need a receptacle mounted on the cooler.

OTOH, if it's on wheels, work-surface or no, I'd still call it an appliance. Heck, if it's not "built-in" (can be moved, not bolted to the floor, etc), I wouldn't call it an island. (1900 box, raised quad cover, two SABCs, profit).

If you liken it to a portable dishwasher with a butcher-block top, it ought not require a receptacle.

This makes me curious as to how you plan on supplying the cooler itself in the middle of the room.
