I have been working on a house built in 1967. I know code changed "bunches" since then, but when was it not allowed by NEC to install a panel in a closet? yes, that is just one of many things that I have found (

Probably the closet was built after the panel was installed years afterwards! LOL!

My house was that way. An typical 8’ long, double sliding door closet, but 33” deep, luckily, with the panel at the end on the short wall.
When adding a sub to a detached garage, ahj said to make the main panel compliant. Solution was to measure 36” away and build a stub wall separating the panel from the rest of the closet.

this closet "might" be wide enough, distance in front is fine. I will need to measure the height to the top of the panel.
I have "one" circuit that has openings in 5 different rooms (including kitchen, living, garage, breakfast area light) & a w/p plug.
