2/02/02/00/1 4 wire feeder

Running some 2/0 SER for a 125 amp feeder (Aluminum obviously). 2/0 has a maximum ampacity of 150A @90C. Why do they use #1 for the equipment ground in the cable? 250.122 says for 150 amp feeder #4 aluminum is all that's required

Yeah but it doesn't always work. For example a 4/0 AL cable has a #2 egc. Two cables would typically have an ampacity of 360A so, assuming a 350 or 400 OCPD, a #1 would be required. It does work for parallel 250's on a 400

True I was referring to the OP's cable which has a #1 EGC which would allow for some paralleling scenarios.

I never noticed this, but SER seems to come with a larger EGC than MC. My comments were based on MC.

So this is odd:. I would say MC is far more likely to be run in parallel than SER, so why does MC have a smaller EGC?

If actually use as service entrance cable (it is type SE cable BTW) that bare conductor is not an EGC it is the grounded conductor. SER can be service cable for three phase four wire, though I think maybe the majority of SER gets used as feeder circuit instead of service cable.
