Wireways/gutters

Good morning fellow tradesmen,

I am reaching out to you for insight on use of wireways/gutters across the nation. In your jurisdictions are they allowed? If they are not permitted what are the reasons?

We are a national manufacturer. One of our plants informed me the in Ohio gutter systems were not allowed. I have not seen pictures of the installation. We are trying use it instead of EMT. Before committing to gutter I was looking for feedback of any pushback from AHJ against the use of gutter.
 
I would ask for specific codes and sections where it is prohibited. It might just be "their" installation was not up to code.
 
IMO they would have to formally remove articles 366, 376, and 378. I haven't heard any of the Ohio members say anything about it.

The only issue I have ever had is not being allowed more than 30 ccc in any cross section of raceway. Just seems like overkill to me and severely limits the use of the gutter/wireway.
 
You have to be careful in the applications. While in the code the use of auxiliary gutters and wireways are much different, in the field the the terms are used interchangeably.
Your description sounds like you are using a wireway. The two issues are, as stated above, the number of current carrying conductors, and what theAHJ thinks the words, " Where insulated conductors 4 AWG or larger are pulled through a wireway " in 376.32(B) mean as they have a huge impact on the sizing.
