Thoughts on this 4x4 box

It could be handy on bar joist or perlings, and could give extra options on a difficult conduit run.

I'm guessing that this a a photo of the box going around a purlin?
Looks more like a steel tube beam. I could see this for as it appears to combine a 4sq jbox and a 4sq fixture box, and eliminating need to make up of box offsets. Cuts down on overall number of bends.

That would be a handy use, but I'd never have one on hand when the opportunity to use it came up.
That's what I thought. It's one of those things you could haul around for five years and never use it. Then one day you see it laying in your truck, and you decide to throw it in the garage because you haven't used it. Then the very next day, you need it. And you're an hour from home

If I did more EMT work, I could see having a few on hand, just in case. I really like finding out new ideas for materials and fixtures. If you have a few oddballs in your repertoire if ideas, they can come in handy sometimes

Something I have seen but never used is 4x4 boxes 2-1/8 deep with the KO's spaced farther forward from the back of the box. Spaced enough to work better when mounting on corrugated sheet metal panels. Box can be attached in the low spots, and raceway can run straight into KO's. If you get sheet metal with 9 inch between corrugations there isn't enough room to offset and you about need to put spacers behind a standard box or only enter top/bottom and then offset/kick out before a 90 degree bend to go horizontally with the run.
