Hi all,
I’m hoping someone can help me. I currently have an obsolete I-T-E EQ load center panel with a 200 amp main and 28 slots. There are a few tandem breakers in the panel and There is no information on this panel besides what I listed. Can anyone help me figure out how many tandem breakers would be allowed in this panel?
Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum.

Usually, the breaker labeling space shows dotted lined in the space next to slots that accept tandems.

I often see the bottom ten (five per side) so designated, and those spaces have V-notched stabs.

According to a 1982 catalog, a GQ28MBB was replaced by a G3040MB1200. The footnote says this is a modified version and a direct replacement. So it looks you might have room for 10 tandems.

Yes, a notch in the bus bar. Typically right across from each other.

I would be inclined to add a panel off to the side for new circuits.
Thanks but I’m adding one tandem to the few in there already. Sounds like there is plenty of room so a sub panel isn’t necessary at this time.

If all of the installed tandems are in the bottom ten spaces, and there are still 1p breakers there, you should be okay.

Any CTL rated tandem will have rejection feature. Non CTL rated tandem will plug into any space in the panel.

As mentioned bus tabs with a notch in them is what accepts the CTL tandems.
