Had a broken spool, nearly full read ll of wire & no spools around. Had the shop cut me 2 plastic dusks. Added a few inch s of 3/4 EMT with 2 connectors. Not a perfect spool but saved a roll of wire.

I hate when you get a brand new roll and the thing breaks or comes apart. It is especially a drag with the smaller reels. They make it out of the cheapest plastic so if it drops the end is torn up.

Rack-A-Teers makes a reel repair. It is just 2 plates/disks with a sort piece of rod fixed on one of the disks, the other disk goes on the other end and has a washer & nut to hold it on. Works good on 500' spools of 14-10 AWG THWN.

I'll have to look that up. I have also seen a disk glued or bolted onto a cracked side. Sort of OK sometimes. When I did warehouse duty at one place, I tried to always have a couple of spares of different sizes.

One would think the supply house has a dumpster full of them.
ours does..
I’ve gotten several small reels from them to roll our mule tape on.

I don't see how a supply house would have any old smaller spools unless they sell wire by the foot. #8 is the smallest most of them sell by the foot around here. Big box stores sell by the foot and may have some occasionally.

Oh.. I’m talking about reels that #8, 12-3, 10-2(3), stuff like that..
usually about a foot long. Not the cheap small ones like Dennis mentioned that bust if they fall over

The wire I salvaged was #12. A bigger spool wouldn’t be practical. 🤣
