Weather-Resistant Receptacles

Was it ever a code requirement to have outdoor receptacles marked with "WR"? If so, when did it change? I can only see the listing of the receptacle must have it labeled "WR", and not an NEC requirement.

Thanks for the replies. Interesting that 406.9(A) Damp Locations says the receptacles shall be a listed weather-resistant type. 406.9(B)(1) Wet Locations says receptacles shall be listed and so identified as the weather-resistant type. In my opinion, that says two different things between damp and wet locations.
