My GC is adding on to an old rental house. He is turning it into a duplex with the new square footage. The old house only has a meter outside, no disconnect. He wants the meter and disconnect for the new part of the dwelling on the opposite side of the original meter location. The original meter will not move. Is this satisfactory with the 2017? Local utility does not care, we use smart meters.

I believe he wants one meter on one side of the duplex and the other on the opposite side of the duplex. I assume 1 drop and one lateral.
My guess if there is a firewall between the structures then this is okay
