Just seems like every call or text I’m getting here lately is asking for something and it’s making me cynical…
If work is beyond my scope, it helps me to discuss the regulatory environment, and examine the work I'm missing.

When people try to break my narrow system, or force me beyond my limits, I ended up either working for free, or dumping an undesirable client.

Specializing within a limited license became a comparative advantage during the 2008 great recession and recent pandemic, when others couldn't roll their trucks.

However, those phone calls wanting freebies always kill me. If its not illegal no guidance exits, they just push my operating policy, or break my better judgement to extract free advice.

If I did not bid the job and he asked me what size of wire to run to the panel, I probably would have given the information. But the fact I put a bid on it and is not hiring me to do the job is what made me not to give the information

I missed that you did price the job. I'm completely with you here.

He refused to pay for your expertise, then asked for some of it free. :cautious:

That was the reason for my comments earlier about time and advice…
You bid it, why answer his questions…

But the keyword is residence. I believe if you are not already living in it, you cannot do your own wiring.

Here a future homeowner can do their own wiring if it will be their residence (even second home). Same with doing their own plumbing, mechanical gas but not HVAC. Seems unreasonable not to allow HVAC... Ha!
