Please can i tie-in a backup generator (2500kva) to a 3000A breaker from a 3000A switchgear? The switchgear also has about 4 other panels tied to it (2x800A, 1x600A and 1x400A). The generator is acting as a backup to the entire system if there is failure of the normal power. Will this be according to NEC code?

The NEC rules for a backup emergency power source are in section 700.3 F I would suggest you review those.

A lot more info is need here. One question is this genset 2500 KVA or 2500KW? A 2500 KW @.8 PF would sound more likely which would make the KVA 3125. Your amp calcs have to be based on the KVA.
