So my contractor buried a run of 4 - 2" PVC conduits coming out of a building. You guessed it - doesn't appear on my as-builts and no locating wire - my question is now that locating utilities has fallen on the electrical department - I have a Metro-Tech locator to use, how are you guys locating empty conduits, I tried the signal on the fishtape routine but no dice...any suggestions??

Thanks

Steve

I hate to say this, but the fish tape thing should have worked. I'd recommend hooking the location to the tape ABOVE GROUND and make sure you are comfortable with how/distance is locates and then try UG.

I've always had good luck with a fishtape also. You could try taking a roll of #14 cu. and use the fishtape to push the wire in the conduit. Then you have your cu. signal wire. Just a thought. I've never tried it.

It generally works. I'll do the same on fish sticks and send it into a wall or ceiling to locate a void that I'm looking for in relation to the attic or basement space.
