I have an area of about 80’x30’ that has hung gyp board ceilings and sheet rock walls. It consists if about 4 separate rooms that have mostly all recessed downlights and a few 2x4’s.

It is being completely gutted. We are allowed to reuse existing circuits that are available after demo.

Many of the lights are being replaced in same location but it still may be tricky to use existing circuits.


  1. Would temp light stringers be necessary for space this size? If so, they would have to be installed, obviously, after the ceiling gets ripped down? Is there any way to get around using temp light stringers for an area this size? Light stands?


Any input regarding what to do/look out for which would increase our chances to use the available circuits in the ceilings.I really hope we can but I'm sure there are a lot of determining factors.
 
why can't you use battery powered lights on stands or use the temp power to power up stand lights while you're working? I'm assuming the space won't be occupied if the ceilings are coming down.

Yes we could use light stands but would we need to kill all the power in the area while they demo? So we couldn't plug into outlets.

I'm certain one of your electricians could make power available for light stands.
 
In a space that small a few temp work lights could be used powered from the existing circuits. Also you could throw in a few laundry drops for temp power from the existing circuits as well.

I think you're over thinking this. You can use stands (if you want) prior to the ceiling coming down, and if you want to hang something afterwards you can, but do you need to have hanging fixtures? will the stands not be enough?

We don't need to hand fixtures. But my question is how would one plug in light stands if we need to kill power for demo?

You said that the existing circuits are to remain and be reused so just add some laundry drops to those existing circuits.
