1/2 rigid is a snug fit into 3/4 rigid/

If the 1/2 reamed to full OD, and a tapped thread added to the 3/4 with a set screw, is a sliding connection made this way per code, or left to AHJ interpretation.
 
Not left up to the AHJ unless the AHJ provides a written special permission...something that is not very common.
344.6 Listing Requirements.
RMC, factory elbows and couplings, and associated fittings shall be listed.
 
why? - Better than what one can purchase, longer reach, convenient when on site and no distributor nearby, not avail at nearby big box, etc.
Still subject to being inspected?

If not kind of your own discretion as well as determining what is worst that may happen and what kind of liability that could mean to you if the worst did happen? Use of recognized items and methods per the application does lessen the liability risk even if it was low to begin with, nobody can say you did something wrong.
