Gfci failing multiple times

If so, maybe the neutral has a poor or intermittent connection and it's causing an overvoltage to occur sometimes on the GFCI, and thereby causing it to fail. Perhaps @don_resqcapt19 was thinking along these lines when he asked whether the garage has a 120/240V feeder.

I have seen 120 volt GFCIs fail due to over voltage. They don't seem to be especially robust.

I did get the chance to open up the panel and check today and it is not a multi wire branch. I was really hopeful to find that so I would at least have something to check out

Well. That may be the problem then. I took off the tape I put around the receptacle and it was covered in ants. I was really surprised but I had never heard of one failing from that. I sprayed around the area for ants so hopefully that will be the end of it. Thanks!
 
I have replaced gfci and photo eyes from ants in there. I mean not one or two but there were hundreds if not thousands of those little tinny ants in the single gang box.
 
About a year ago, had a bad smoke detector that had been installed maybe a year prior. Replaced it and took the bad one home and was about to take it apart and a spider crawled out. Pretty sure that was the problem :)
 
Man I probably would have made fun of someone saying ants are ruining their gfcis if I haven't seen it myself. This one would be one of the weirdest things I've seen now. And that includes the lady who legitimately thought her smoke detectors were haunted
 
They get bugs crawl in to them. Whoops, se we got to that already. One of my guys took a couple apart.
