I am replacing an existing sub panel that has got damaged. This subpanel is being fed from a 40 amp breaker with #8 wire. Once installed the panel I noticed the main lugs were sized from #6-#1. Do they make a lug kit or adapter were I could use a #8 wire. They feel tight in the lugs but I don't want to have issues down the road. The reason I had to use 125amp sub panel is because that's all the supply house stocks. I'm using a GE TLM812RCU sub panel. Thank you

I doubt they make factory different lugs for smaller wire for that. You could try just changing the lugs. I wouldn't hesitate to just change them out, but sometimes the setup is proprietary and hard to find something that fits.

Thank you for the help. I plan to reach out to supply house today see what options they have. I'm trying not to splice the wires if possible. Someone had mentioned crimping lugs on to the # 8 them self and then landing them on the panel after removing the existing lugs. That seems like a good option as well. Hopefully I can just change out the lugs.
