I’m looking at an existing dwelling that is being partly demoed on the interior.
Homeowners are only removing the surface finish on the areas being renovated.
The overall condition of the electrical is poor and ranges from K+T ( appears to be dead) through the years of different NM cable types .
Is there anything in writing that spells out at what point the entire dwelling needs to be brought to current code?
One person tells me if more than 50% is being altered it all needs updating another says it’s up to the local inspector to decide .
I know in my own mind it should all come out but I need some type of code verbage stating what the requirements are.
Thanks
