We have two buildings, a barn, and a single family house with separate main breaker panels both being fed off the same 200 amp meter thats installed on a utility pole in between both buildings about 100 feet away from each. The house burned down and is being rebuilt, the old house had a 100 amp over hear service drop. The new house is going to have a 200 amp underground feed from the meter on the pole 100 feet away from where it will enter the house. I have a few questions, should we be putting a main disconnect on the pole next to the meter pan and running the feeds from that underground to the house or would we just want to run the feeds from the meter to a main breaker panel in the house ? Also would direct burial service wire be far more expensive than running pvc to the house from the pole ? Thanks in advance for replies !!

I would up the service to 400A, with a 320A (400A continuous) meter base. The meter base will have dual lugs and you can serve two 200A panels, one at the house and one in the barn. You can use the exception for two sets of SE conductors from one drop for dwellings. Then only 3-wires from each set of lugs to the panels, or disconnects if required in your area.

What exception?
