Bonding sub panel

Today I went on a service call and the appliance company told the homeowner they had weird voltage at every appliance circuit. I look at all the appliance circuits and find 120v at every outlet. I go to the sub panel that is feeding all the appliance circuits and it’s bonded feed by 4 wires hot hot neutral ground. All connections from the main panel to sub panel were good. I separated grounds and neutrals and unbounded the panel.

Could this cause weird voltage? I understand why everything needs to be separated after your first means of disconnect. I feel you could run into different problems like having current on your ground. Is this the appliance guy not knowing what he was doing or is there something that could cause weird voltage at different times?

I never talked to the appliance guy to see what voltages he was getting and homeowner didn’t know.

First how did they measure the weird voltages H-N, H-EGC? Secondly no, unbonding the neutral wouldn't change anything if the 4-wire feeder was correct.

Without knowing how they tested the circuits to find the weird voltages means that were just guessing. You said that the receptacles tested normal at 120 volts H-N. Unless they can tell you specifically what they found wrong the only thing left to test at the receptacles would be H-EGC.
