I have a technical question, I have come across quite a few residential back up generator installs and am now looking at commercial installations for our company. Being new to commercial (licensed but new), I would love to access the Mike Holt community's vast knowledge base for this:
The scenario I have here is just a hypothetical example, as I do not feel like sketching out all the wiring, you get the jist lol.
Consider we have a client wanting a full back up on a building with a 1000 amp main service disconnect.
Voltage is irrelevant for this scenario.
The question here is the ATS placement. In this scenario lets say we have a cramped electrical room with not enough clearance to put a ATS. If the ATS is installed outdoors (same wall) as the Service disconnect inside, would the switch outdoors on the ATS be counted as an Emergency disconnect (meaning that would need to become the main service disconnect and we would have to float neutrals from grounds in the original Service Disconnect?) or would that just serve as an additional disconnect in the circuit of feeders?
Also if there are any veteran project managers that may have dealt with moving parts of this size, is there a plan/review process needed fir this with LNI or local City electrical inspectors/ At what point between simple electrical service jobs and new construction do I need to formally make Electrical plans and drawings?
Thanks a bunch, I appreciate your help!
