I'm dealing with a GC that doesn't want to pay me to install nail plates.
What's the code reference ? I can't seem to find it.

I will get paid if I can provide a code reference. even though I argued it's a better job with the nail plates. Bottom line code is what matters.

NEC 300.4. In particular, 300.4(A)(1) is most common (copied from 2017 NEC):

"In both exposed and concealed locations, where a cable- or raceway-type wiring method is installed through bored holes in joists, rafters, or wood members, holes shall be bored so that the edge of the hole is not less than 32 mm (11∕4 in.) from the nearest edge of the wood member. Where this distance cannot be maintained, the cable or raceway shall be protected from penetration by screws or nails by a steel plate(s) or bushing(s), at least 1.6 mm (1∕16 in.) thick, and of appropriate length and width installed to cover the area of the wiring."

Cheers, Wayne

I'm a little confused, GC is able to dictate wiring methods?
Same here. To the OP, do you charge per staple and does the GC tell you where to place them.

On the other hand, if you could have drilled holes and not needed nail plates as an extra cost I might see his point.

Install the nail plates to CYA then find a new GC to work with.

I had a GC try to dictate what I should do or not do so I went to my truck and handed him my code book and tell me where it states what he said.
