GEC at remote feeder disconnect on a welded stand

From the main distrubution panel, about 600' away, we have a welded steel stand with a 480 volt disconnect, 480 v to 208 v transformer, and then to a 120/208 panel. I know the transformer needs a ground rod. There is nothing else around. But does the 480v disconnect need to be connected to tha ground rod? I'm using 250.32.
 
You should have an EGC run with the conductors to the 480 volt disconnect. So then no, the 480 volt disconnect does not need to be connected to the GES. The GES is for the secondary side of the transformer.

So your considering this to be just equipment not a structure.

It sounds like a mounting support to me not a structure. If you want to consider it a structure you can just run a GEC to the disco. IMO the NEC definition is so poor that it could probably be argued either way.

I don't want to consider it a structure, but every time we have a pedestal supporting a panel we call it a structure. I don't really see a difference here.
My first thought was if it was just the transformer would that make a difference.
I think that is why the OP was asking for clarification
 
You need the electrode for the transformer so, since the electrode for the 480v disconnect is a grey area there would be no harm and little effort to connect it to the same electrode

I agree but I wouldn't require it to be done that way. Someone needs to fix the horrible definition of structure in Article 100.
