Question: what is the benefit of using silver coupling for conduits aside from adding more cost to the project?

What kind of conduit and what's a silver coupling? Is it actually made of silver?

Silver is great on low voltage, low current switch contact points.
Silver plating is also great on megahertz cable conductors.

Assuming you mean steel vs die cast/zinc: steel are generally thought to be "better" because they are stronger, but the only practical thing is die cast can be a real PIA to take apart and a pain to reuse.

Oh I see silver color couplings as in steel compression. I might use those on a finished wall as they look good. But they are slower to install than steel set screw, and set screw can have a better fault current path.

If this is questioning steel fittings vs die cast fittings particularly for EMT raceways, the steel fittings can take more strain, misalignment of raceway, physical abuse, etc. without breaking than the die cast typically can.
