Can someone tell me if there is an AC-DC-AC converter on the market that can convert 30kW split phase 240/120Vac 60Hz to 3 phase 480Vac(or 208Vac) 60Hz output? Bidirectional, of course.

Nothing off-the-shelf. Two independent UPS systems or two M-G sets maybe. I'd probably re-think the entire concept because it sounds like trouble.

The are several ways to go from 1-phase to balanced 3-phase, as well as several ways to go from 240V to 480V. There are no easy ways to go from balanced 3-phase to 1-phase (balanced split phase) using the same products.

Why not stay with single phase?

Would you mind going into detail?

I hope Jim doesn't mind, but I'll jump in: there are VFD's that will accept single phase input and output three phase. There are various types of phase converters from rotary to electronic.

There's been discussion on this forum about this very obscure transformer connection called the leyton connection that supposedly allows a single phase load to draw evenly from a three-phase source

I imagine it could be done with some sort of rotary converter, but I'm not aware of any such product.

It can not turn a single phase load into a balanced 3 phase load, as the former has a sinusoidal power delivery (at twice the fundamental frequency), while the latter has a constant power delivery.

In principle, what the OP wants is actually quite doable. In practice I don't know if it could be bought off the shelf.

Line regenerative VFDs are standard devices.

Single phase input, three phase output VFDs are standard devices.

VFDs which boost the DC bus rather than straight rectification are standard devices.

But I don't know if any manufacturers do all 3 things at once as a standard item.

Thinking about standard rotary phase converters...they should handle bidirectional power flow, although the voltage regulation of the derived leg will be even worse than typical for RPCs.

A synchronous motor generator set should be bidirectional as well.
