K&T wiring

Customer wants to replace K & T wiring as much as possible. Can I splice K&T eires with Romax in the basement inside electrical metal box. I noticed there are multiple boxes in the basement with fuses protecting neutral 15A and hot 20A. Do neutral has to be protected with refuse in K&T wiring
Because if I use Romax on home run protection will be only on hot wire.

That is the plan
Most is already removed but remaining installation would require opening plater walls and ceiling
Owner is not ready for that
