Ceiling fan control

I've got a job where someone prior to me wire (2) 5 speed "Ironton" ceiling fans in a warehouse on (1) 5 speed fan control
that was made for these particular fans.
The controls are melted, and upon further research, I found out that the manufacturer doesn't recommend putting more than 1 on the controller. The fan and controllers are from Manufacturer in China. The controllers as far as I know now, cannot be purchased locally. Looks like if we're going to get new controls they would have to be shipped from China. My question is: if I can use an industrial grade "variable speed" controller that is rated for the proper load, to take the place of these melted controllers? I'm waiting for a response through the retailer to get an answer from the China manufacturer, but of course IF they do get back with me, they're going to say I have to use theirs, then I'll have to pay a "humongous price" to have it shipped from China, then of course no warranty since there are 2 fans wire on the controller. It's not feasible to take one of the fans off the controller, since the fans are about 20 ft in the air, wired in conduit in a warehouse, etc.
What's your thoughts on this? The fan is made to run on 5 separate speeds.
Thanks for your input. I don't want to invest the owners money on something that will not work on this type of fan.
Thanks again.

What's in it?

Electronic or just a switch and a tapped reactor in series with the line? You said it melted so you should have an idea what it looked like. Replacing it with the same will only result in the same problem. What's the current draw of the fans in that control.

I'm sorry, it's actually a "Westinghouse", but the same design as you have the picture of. I was just going by the looks of the fans since it's so high.
The "specs" on the fan according to the website description is only 60 watts. Don't seem like 2 fans at 120 watts would melt the control, but it has.
There's actually 2 controllers, but each has 2 fans on it. The controllers has a small transformer in them. Both are "melted". Right now, the owner just opted to put blank covers on the boxes for "final inspection".
Still waiting for the response from the Manufacturer.
Thanks

I had a problem with fans like these, but different brands, a few years ago. Cut to the chase, they were running two fans on one controller. Only solution was to run only one fan on one controller.
