Friends.
I have a 480 VAC brake-motor on a hoist. The Stearns brake has an inrush of 5 amps and holding current of 0.4 amp. Saturn hoist had fused the brakes with time delay 0.5 amp CC fuses. However, I want to use a breaker with aux contact so i can receive the status of the brake voltage in the PLC. [ During install they ran the motor without the brake fuses installed and fried the friction disc !] 😡🤬

I don't know where in the NEC to look for this type of protection. I am thinking of using a breaker with a deep curve (D") and rated at 1 amp. But not sure where to look to confirm this is OK ??

I should add that I moved the hoist controls from onboard the hoist, down into my MCC cabinet where it would be accessible for maintenance. So the motor and brake power now are transmitted from my MCC cabinet via droop cable up to the hoist location. About a 40 foot run through a multi-conductor AWG 12 cable.

I don't know where in the NEC to look for this type of protection.
It will not be directly in the NEC. Sizing, other than a maximum, is a design choice.
I would look at the Time Current Curve for the fuse and find a breaker that is comparable.

Yeah that's what i am doing, I found a D-curve breaker that should work fine.
And an aux contact so i can monitor the status in the PLC.

THANKS !
