Where are you finding #14 aluminum conductors?

It's probably not #14 aluminum if it's old. More likely it's tin coated copper that looks like aluminum. Do you have any photos?
Ill see if I can get some pictures. The breaker panels has 15s and 20s OCPD. The wire straps and breaks like aluminum. You can visibly see the difference between the both. You could also be right.

Take your knife and scrape the wire to see if there is copper underneath.

The smallest I've seen is #12 AL

That is the smallest that has ever been been permitted by the NEC.
