Yes since it's more than 50' and likely not in sight of the panel in the house.Do you need a main breaker in the sub panel for pool equipment? It is mounted on a 4x4 post 75' from the house. It is fed from a 50 breaker located in the house.
You need a GES regardless.Yes more than 6 handles . If we don’t need a main breaker then we shouldn’t need two ground rods?
The way I envision the OP's installation and equipment I say yes, could be wrong though. Is a 4X4 post really a structure?
There were two PIs that attempted to address this issue in the 2026 code, and both were rejected. Is a 4X4 post really a structure?
They were both rejected with the following panel statement.Structure.
That which is built or constructed, other than the use of equipment providing support, or supporting system for equipment support. (CMP-1)
Structure.
That which is built or constructed, other than equipment or equipment on supports. (CMP-1)
It is my opinion that the panel statement did not really address the changes proposed in either of the PIs.The Panel concludes that supports can be part of the structure per the definition.
I agree. Either of those new definitions would provide clarity to an often argued scenario. Sounds like the CMP couldn't even understand what they were reading. Some of these CMP members must be really dumb if they cannot read a single sentence and not understand how it applies to a really world installation. There were two PIs that attempted to address this issue in the 2026 code, and both were rejected.

One of those proposals even had pictures of equipment on a unistrut rack in the middle of a park to illustrate the intent of the change.I agree. Broken record here but CMP's need term limits.
Yeah this one is a no brainer. The panel statement really tells the story of complete incompetence. One of those proposals even had pictures of equipment on a unistrut rack in the middle of a park to illustrate the intent of the change.
It might also highlighted to panel likelihood of lightning strike and necessity of ground rod, treating it as structireOne of those proposals even had pictures of equipment on a unistrut rack in the middle of a park to illustrate the intent of the change.
