I told the tile guys before they cut make sure I can remove boxes. I left them a box to make sure they cut the dimensions.
Well, they told me they can’t because of warranty reasons and I told him I had to be able to remove that box if need be

Now I come to find this box was blown out and now I have to remove it. Well guess what the smallest pancake box or a shallow box whatever you call them won’t even fit.

Is this technically illegal an extension ring will fit a device will fit, but I can never remove the box and put a new box in.

Guy was upset because I couldn’t put in his new switch
I’m sick of people they’re just never mind

There is nothing in the code that requires the box be removable through the cut out.

If you knew the boxes were going to be covered with tile/slab material why didn't you change them to adjustable boxes or 4sq with deep rings?

How is this different than any other flush mount box behind an expensive surface finish.

On the other hand, I know a guy with a hammer.😀

Hey man, get off my case Owner didn’t wanna do the work at the time

And I left the box with them so they knew what dimensions a new box would be…

So it’s perfectly OK to seal that box and completely where you’ll never be able to get to it again without busting the oopa loopa poopa out of that granite just doesn’t make sense to me

What is that stuff made out of? Is it ceramic?

Almost 2 1/2 inch granite —

— I complained at the countop company and he says nothing he can do about it. He says he has to keep those radius for warranty purposes and I told the dummy well why didn’t you cut it to the box? I left you and make it to match those radius.
I was trying to be proactive because Customer didn’t want to spend the money and I left the box to try and make these morons realize what they’re doing, but I guess you can’t fix stupidity

I’ve had tile guys come back and tile over a duplex receptacle cutting out just the round part of the duplex receptacles so you can plug something in. I mean these people are beyond stupid.

Did not mean to be snippy, but I did try my best
Not like I’m gonna go out the way and not get paid just because the guy doesn’t understand what needs to be done

How many of these things do you have to do?

I don’t know if I’m doing it
I kept it off and didn’t hook it up—

I’m just annoyed that these tile guys won’t take the time to properly cut it. That’s my point. I’m being a stickler

And even if they didn’t make it to a standard box, at least make the box currently in the wall able to be removed I mean, come on

What got me also is tile guys I’ve seen they’ll take a shot and if a receptacle is an 8th inch off they’ll tell the homeowner. Hey, you should move that receptacle cause it’s gonna look weird. These guys didn’t one receptacles like an inch to lower and then another one’s an inch too higher it looks like a staircase

Not my deal I don’t care just for the cost of that granite. It’s just sad.

I moved a bunch of granite to Manhattan and unloaded it at a jobsite with my forklift. I forget the value, but it was more than I wanted to drop off the tip of a fork. Lot of it was heavy I was using a 6,000 pound fork truck and you knew it was working. Not really overloaded, but out at the tip of the long forks it had on it, it was a balancing act

Well, there's your problem :) Owner didn't want to pay up front for you to install boxes that would work well with the finish. Now they have to pay for someone to bring in a star trek transporter.....

And I left the box with them so they knew what dimensions a new box would be…

It is perfectly ok to seal a box into the wall as long as you can access the device and wires. Think about boxes that are plastered in after installation.

I wouldn't want the hole on the wall large enough to push a device box through. I'd want an oversized box behind the hole, with an adjustable device ring. But that isn't a requirement, just my preference.

Given the wall finish radius requirements, this really should have been coordinated before any stone was cut. But that is on the customer who didn't want to pay for the electrical prep work...
