Hi Folks,

I'm looking at running electrical to a sauna that's been built by a shop class. It has a Siemens spa pack mounted on the side that supplies the sauna heater with built in controls plus a couple breakers for a light & receptacle. It sits on skids and is small than the local authority requires a building permit for. Aside from the fact that the internal wiring will need to be inspected to ensure it meets code I'm trying to figure out if this sauna is classified as a "building or structure"

If its a building or structure then that spa pack needs its own grounding electrode system. I've only ever installed spa packs attached to the same building that it is fed from. Also gets me thinking, if one mounts a spa pack on a post on the way to the sauna or hot tub it shouldn't need a grounding electrode system because its not mounted on a structure?

Not sure if i'll take this one on due to the complications of the home built sauna but I'm still want to know thoughts on GEC system required for it or not?

Thanks in advance!

It doesn't have to be built in place to meet the definition of a structure. Looks no different than a shed which would require a GES if you installed a panel in it.
