Type NM for Dishwasher

I'd be willing to bet that 99% or more of hardwired dishwashers do not have a switch at the counter. I've never seen one.
NC used to allow a single pole switch in a j box floating under the dishwasher. I probably install hundreds like that. By the end of my career we always ran the dishwasher power under the sink cabinet and had a tail out to the dishwasher space. If the dishwasher was cord and plug from the manufacturer we would disconnect the wire to the dishwasher and just install a receptacle under the sink. If it was direct wired we would put a sp switch inste

Why would anyone direct wire a DW and not want a cord with a plug on it? Seems like if I wanted to pull it out and work on it, a cord would be so much easier. I typically put a GFCI under my sink and just run the cord through a hole and plug it in. So much easier.
I prefer installing a cord because I can wire it before it is set in place. I on that installing a receptacle for it maybe more work in most cases but it's completed on my timeline and not the counter installer or plumbers timeline.
