Service call today. The HMI would begin the shutdown process then restart everything when you released the "button".
AB1400 PLC . Couldn't reliably connect to it.
Some smart EC had talked them into having a spare already programmed on hand. Long enough ago, that I almost forgot.

Well you could suggest why a PLC would appear to lock itself in a loop that Estop, control stop and power recycles don't interrupt.

It's not the HMI. It updated to new firmware and reloaded the existing programming with no hitches.

FWIW, I don’t know if it failed to shut the motors down. I wasn’t there at that time and nothing was running when I got there. We did not try a restart until after I got the loop cleared by installing a backup PLC.

The guy running the process is almost the only one. The other moved or was moved back to Mexico.
I'm the only one with PLC knowledge of it.
