Bathroom Circuit in remodel

Doing a job whereto customer has added a bathroom to their upstairs bedroom. The only reasonably available circuits to use are the bedroom receptacles and bedroom lighting circuit. Pulling a new dedicated bath circuit is not feasible.

Is this an NEC issue? I know in new construction the bath should get it's own circuit but what about a remodel?

It's a code requirement whether it's feasible or not. You're AHJ would need to grant a variance from the code requirement. If you throw enough money at a problem it can be solved, like running a conduit on the outside of the house.

Seems if water and sewer connection will be new then you can do it- they usually are more intrusive.
And if its that easy for water amd not you time for owner to not put in complete bathroom yet till your inspected for your small very fancy office or walk in closet?

I get it, sometimes you just want a simple job to remain simple. For me adding the bathroom receptacle to an existing lighting and receptacle circuit is shortchanging the client. Who wants to be watching the lights in the other room go dim every time someone dries their hair with a blow dryer.

Maybe not lighting, but to put it on with the bedroom receptacles does not seem crazy to me. There is already a separate heater in the bedroom so that circuit has basically nothing on it.

Regarding water and sewer, it was already conveniently located so actually easier than getting a new home run from the opposite end of the home.

That all said, I hear you. I asked the question and the answer is yes, it's required. I can talk to the AHJ and see what he thinks.

Are you suggesting that the customer will accept a new bathroom with no toilet? :giggle:
I don’t know if the plumbing is easily accessible after I’m gone and got it inspected what they do is up to them

Like 90% of everyone on here most of this codebook is nothing but design and not safety. There’s no safety in a branch circuit for anything dedicated- unless it’s like life support.
If I want my kitchen garage outside lights and my bathroom all tied together, it’s not gonna kill anyone stupid but it’s not gonna kill anyone
